I compiled the mainline source that you can get from the freedesktop FTP server (ftp://ftp.freedesktop.org/pub/mesa/). This is where the official Mesa website (www.mesa3d.org) refers to for downloads. For r300 you can ./configure the driver to use Gallium, so it will become r300g.
