I have the same problem. The problem appeared in the ubuntu 10.10 but when I typed "Alt + TAB" or "Alt + F1", for example, the touchpad back to work. I reinstall the Ubuntu 10.10 some times and the problem continued. After update to 11.04, "Alt + TAB" or "Alt + F1" don't work more, I have that check and uncheck "Disable Pointing" in gpointing-device-settings for back to work.
