For me it's enough to open a FTP bookmark I added to nautilus and copy a file from my PC to the FTP directory. File transfers, dialog window stays on screen, FTP mount is automatically unmounted Works every time
Also I get the same problem when copying files to a USB Stick or MP3 Player which especially in the case of the player is annoying.
