If you also install the updated language-selector package (Natty version in my 
PPA: https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/misc) you can easily change that.

* If you drag e.g. zh_TW to the top on the first tab in language-
selector, the input method system control shows "ibus", since that's the
default for zh_TW.

* If you drag English to the top, the control is blank, since the
default for English is to not start any input method system. By
switching to "ibus" you tell the system: "When the selected language is
English, start ibus automatically at login."

Not that pity after all, right? :)

I missed at first that the im-switch change was an insufficient fix, and that 
language-selector should be changed as well. Sorry for the confusion it may 
have caused.

As Kyle suggested, I opened the bug #788033 as a place to further talk
about IM management, in order to avoid further noise on this bug report
about a side topic.
