on the Ubuntu login screen at the bottom (after you click your name), you can choose to log in NOT in Unity version ("Ubuntu"), but instead in "Ubuntu Classic" or "Ubuntu Classic (no effects)". I tried this, and anki is working fine on both Classic and Classic (no effects). this suggests to me that the problem is with compiz (since I did not have to install python-qt from source to get it to work, but simply switch to a desktop that doesn't use compiz. although...i guess the problem could be that python-qt is the culprit in how it interacts with compiz...). I tried going into Unity desktop and open CompizConfig Settings Manager and disabled the "Effects" like "Animation", but that messes up the interface (panel, launcher, etc, disappear).
unfortunately, in the next release of Ubuntu (11.10), there will not be any "Ubuntu Classic" option anymore. hopefully this will be resolved in compiz and/or pyqt by then. otherwise, i guess for most people, they'll have install another desktop like Kubuntu, Lubuntu, etc in order to use anki until this is fixed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/756560 Title: Screen redraw issues when using Anki -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
