Writing this on a Vostro 3700 Core i7 with Nvidia GT216 [GeForce GT 330M] and Broadcom BCM 43224 on battery alone. Before editing "pcie_aspm=off" into the grub, the machine froze completely within 15 seconds of disconnecting the power supply.
This behaviour started after installing Ubuntu 11.04 and continued with Linux Mint Debian XFCE [2.6.32-5-686] until applying the above mentioned fix (from comment #37)... so It might well be an upstream kernel bug. It didnt happen with Linux Mint 9 LXDE - Ubuntu 10.04 based - but I upgraded to Ubuntu 11.04 in an attempt to acquire CPU throttling as my Vostro 3700 recently required servicing from overheating and turning itself off after 15 min of Handbrake video encoding. Tech service told me thermal compound was all over the place, so comment #114 by Mateo about Core i7 Linux laptops not being able to handle the heat from makes a lot of sense to me now ! - Anyway thanks to this thread I can now use my laptop unplugged, the way it is supposed to work, and have CPU throtlling. If you need any other info or output just let me know, Ill monitor this thread for the following week. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/656745 Title: notebook crashes on battery with particular wlan or other pcie devices enabled (dell vostro 3700, asus, medion, acer and others) -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
