There is an Arch Linux package that uses Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats instead of PowerPoint Viewer, but in the comments I can see that the problem with it is pretty same. http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?do_Details=1&ID=8475
