I just discovered that my mouse dead zone is exactly the shape and
position of alt-tab switcher (compiz plugin). In fact it's the shape of
the switcher's grey background/border, excluding the window previews.
xwininfo shows the window is mapped (IsViewable) but is also InputOnly
and OverrideRedirect. Also the parent of the window is the root window,
so that's probably why mouse button events get ignored.
