Bearing in mind that it's early days for Unity, it's as well to remember that
new
builds are tested in the wild on us. Only then can they be 'completed'.

Gnome 3, maybe, should be the main development with Unity being a spin off
build
for those who have the kit. For me at least I just want an OS that I can work
on.
I don't want to be worried that every time I shut down that I may not be able
to
boot up again nor have to spend hours with workarounds and fixes.

It might even help if there was an updating list of working cards to refer to.
So if the worst happens (nothing) it would be possible to go get another card.
There is a tension between forging ahead technically (probably touch screen)
and being sensitive to users with old kit.

So far as I can see tested cards (which you probably have seen) from
another posting

ATI cards: Radeon 7500, Radeon 9250, Radeon 9500, Radeon 9600, Radeon X300,
Radeon X1600, Radeon HD 2600.
NVIDIA cards: TNT/Vanta, GeForce 2MX, GeForce 3, GeForce 4MX, GeForce FX 5200,
GeForce FX 5500, GeForce 6200, GeForce 6800, GeForce 7600, GeForce 8600,
GeForce 8800.
Intel cards: 865 ('Extreme Graphics'), 915 ('GMA 900'), 945 ('GMA 950'), 965
('GMA X3100').
Others: SiS 661, SiS 760, S3 UniChrome, Matrox G400, S3 ProSavage.

Still sketchy then.
