here is another sequence.... if i log in with the modem attached to the computer nm-applet crashes until i remove the modem and start nm-applet by hand. (i'm filing a seperate bug with gnome about this). then it prompts me for the PIN, the first time i enter it and press return nothing happens, the dots don't show up on the nm-applet "enter PIN" window, the second time i enter the PIN the dots show up but when I press return a message appears at the bottom of the screen saying "operation not permitted". I hit return again and the window disappears. Then I notification pops up saying "GSM network disconnected" and the GSM network is not visible in the NM list of connections - the modem is being redecected by the kernel. We go through this procedure 2 or 3 times and eventually i connect.
here is the nm-applet output for what it is worth: [when i log in nm-applet is not running] (python-env)tom@alph:~/nm-debug$ nm-applet ** Message: <info> No keyring secrets found for Meteor Broadband To Go/gsm; asking user. ** ERROR:applet-device-gsm.c:811:gsm_get_secrets: assertion failed: (info) Aborted (core dumped) (python-env)tom@alph:~/nm-debug$ nm-applet ** Message: <info> No keyring secrets found for Meteor Broadband To Go/gsm; asking user. ** ERROR:applet-device-gsm.c:811:gsm_get_secrets: assertion failed: (info) Aborted (core dumped) [I remove the GSM modem from my computer] (python-env)tom@alph:~/nm-debug$ nm-applet ** (nm-applet:3868): DEBUG: old state indicates that this was not a disconnect 0 ** (nm-applet:3868): DEBUG: old state indicates that this was not a disconnect 0 ** (nm-applet:3868): DEBUG: foo_client_state_changed_cb ** (nm-applet:3868): DEBUG: going for offline with icon: notification-network-disconnected ** (nm-applet:3868): DEBUG: going for offline with icon: notification-network-disconnected ** Message: <info> No keyring secrets found for Meteor Broadband To Go/gsm; asking user. ** (nm-applet:3868): DEBUG: foo_client_state_changed_cb ** (nm-applet:3868): WARNING **: unlock_pin_reply: error unlocking with PIN: Operation not allowed ** (nm-applet:3868): WARNING **: unlock_pin_reply: error unlocking with PIN: Serial port is now closed ** (nm-applet:3868): WARNING **: _nm_object_get_property: Error getting 'FirmwareMissing' for /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Devices/4: (19) Method "Get" with signature "ss" on interface "org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties" doesn't exist ** (nm-applet:3868): WARNING **: _nm_object_get_property: Error getting 'Managed' for /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Devices/4: (19) Method "Get" with signature "ss" on interface "org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties" doesn't exist ** (nm-applet:3868): DEBUG: foo_client_state_changed_cb ** (nm-applet:3868): DEBUG: going for offline with icon: notification-gsm-disconnected ** (nm-applet:3868): DEBUG: old state indicates that this was not a disconnect 9 ** (nm-applet:3868): DEBUG: old state indicates that this was not a disconnect 3 ** (nm-applet:3868): DEBUG: foo_client_state_changed_cb ** (nm-applet:3868): DEBUG: going for offline with icon: notification-gsm-disconnected ** (nm-applet:3868): DEBUG: old state indicates that this was not a disconnect 0 ** (nm-applet:3868): DEBUG: foo_client_state_changed_cb ** (nm-applet:3868): DEBUG: going for offline with icon: notification-network-disconnected ** (nm-applet:3868): DEBUG: going for offline with icon: notification-network-disconnected ** (nm-applet:3868): DEBUG: foo_client_state_changed_cb ** (nm-applet:3868): DEBUG: foo_client_state_changed_cb ** Attachment added: "network manager log." https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/779554/+attachment/2122312/+files/nm.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/779554 Title: intermittent connection issues with GSM modem -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
