Well we originally found this in a Natty ftbfs in bug 745843 (vtk), so yes it breaks something - whether it breaks anything important however is a different matter; it's a bit of a timebomb - it's a case of a branch landing on a particular boundary under certain conditions and you never know what other change is going to trip that.
