Binary package hint: unity
When you drag an item (e.g. Netbeans dock) over the unity launcher and
then you press esc to cancel the drag, the destop stays with only the
window that was visible (the window whose icon you were hovering when
you pressed esc). The mouse does nothing, and any new window you may
open using the keyboard flashes on the screen and disappears. There is
no choice then but to shut down by cutting the power.
Technically it seems that esc terminates the drag, but the overlay that
shows only the window over whose icon the mouse was hovered waits for a
drop event, which is unable to receive.
