I guess the error is caused by the wrong install-info script. Install- info is also provided by TeXLive (TL) that I installed manually to have TL 2007 and the TeXLive path is searched before the system path. I just chmod -x the TL install-info and the upgrade process is still running. With 5.10 I had a similar problem I just remembered ... I wonder why I didn't had this problem on my office PC with the same setup (Breezy and TL 2007).
