I am also experiencing this same behavior with my new Lenovo Thinkpad T420 laptop with a fresh install of 11.04 32bit. It does not happen every time I lock the screen, but does happen a few times per day. I'll try to keep track if it only happens when the screen is locked for an extended period of time. To recover from this problem I have been logging in to one of the virtual consoles to issue a reboot command.
