I've done a clean install which automatically used the STA driver and had this problem. I then disabled it and tried the firmware-b43-lpphy- installer package only to have the same problem. If I disable wireless completely, either using the BIOS or the switch on the front everything works fine. I decided to try using a USB wireless NIC, but oddly the switch / BIOS change disables wireless completely, including any USB NIC! I have managed to enable wireless and prevent the internal NIC from connecting to the access point and found no problems, although I have been unsuccessful in getting the USB NIC to connect (which could be unrelated since it uses an Intersil ISL3886 chipset and isn't supported out of the box unfortunately). I will continue experimenting where I can, but would speculate that this is a kernel / firmware clash somewhere.
