I have a /tmp that will be emptied on reboot. I don't know about anyone else, but I thought the cache should be a little more persistent. I personally have change the location: mkdir /var/cache/pear pear config-set cache_dir /var/cache/pear
I suggest that's a little more appropriate and should be the default at installation time.
