I've had the same problem (XServer crash with segmentation fault on video playback), not only with MPlayer, but also with VLC, when I moved the VLC window, and with the Parole Media Player, as soon as I started playing a video. Using r920 of http://svn.openchrome.org/svn/trunk fixed this issue for me, too. Hopefully, this will be soon available in the xserver-xorg-video-openchrome package.
