here's what I see (written down, since I can't figure out how to capture this - I hope there's no mistakes:) [<c100367e7>]kernel_thread_helper+0x6/0x10 Code:83 c4 10 5b 5e 5f 5d c3 ba 2b 01 00 00 b8 b8 d9 67 c1 e8 d5 27 fe ff e9 bb fc ff ff 55 89 e5 3e 8d 74 26 00 8b 80 60 02 00 5d <8b> 40 fc c3 8d b6 00 00 00 00 8d bc 27 00 00 00 00 55 89 e5 57 EIP: [<c106d17f>]kthread_data+0xf/0x20 SS:ESP 0068:f44bfcc4 CD2: 00000000fffffffc ---[end tree 1d825b0cf21f78ee] Fixing recursive fault but reboot is needed The options "ro acpi=off nosplash text" can consistently get me booted to a terminal. Then from the terminal "sudo service start gdm" gets to the gdm logon screen. On the logon screen I must choose "classic (no effects)" and then I can get to gnome. Downgrading to 2.6.37-02063706-generic #201103281005 allows gnome to start normally. In the forums here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1743535&page=3 Tell me how to get more information and I'll post it.
