Just had it happen again. compiz --replace did nothing, killing X got me back to gdm login on tty7, but when I logged back into Unity everything was still frozen, except for the mouse cursor. I'm going to try logging into the Ubuntu Classic desktop to see if I can reproduce the issue there, has anyone else tried that?
