Public bug reported:

I am using an Acer Aspire 5734z-4512. The report will show that I'm
using a previous kernel version. I upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04...and
right before that ubuntu logo came up, BOOM, there goes my
backlight...tried a few things with the flashlight...but to no
avail...actually installed the package gnome in synaptics by flashlight,
thinking maybe if I get my old environment back, it'd work...well, so I
logged out, and nothing, restarted and used previous kernel version and
it worked... My grub screen looked totally different though...had a sun
and everything, so I think one of those 88 packages that came with the
gnome package installed some stuff with it. I'll be trying with the
regular new kernel to see if it works because of installing that
package....but I doubt it. I wouldn't mind some sort of fix for
this...it was kinda disappointing...
