Public bug reported: Just installed Ubuntu 11.04 on an Intel DQ57TM motherboard with the latest BIOS revision. Configured the system to boot using EFI. Ubuntu installed properly on the EFI system but when it came time to reboot the computer the kernel crashes right before the reboot operation is to take place. This happened both from the installer CD as well as the installed system. This happens so late in the process that it is not in any of the log files.
So I had to snap pictures with my iphone camera. I will upload them. The fix is easy. All I had to do to remedy the problem was to add the following to the kernel configuration line via grub: reboot=a,w That command tells the kernel to use ACPI and not EFI runtime services to reboot. When using ACPI the kernel reboots perfectly. The bug is either in the kernel or my systems EFI firmware but either way when isntalling grub-efi it might be a good idea to modify /etc/default/grub to add reboot=a,w to the kernel command line. Pictures with crash will follow.
