@Robert the SRU has now gone out so I suggest we file a new bug for that. Looking back to bzr 2.0 I can't see that index nodes ever provided a .items() method, and nothing in index.py has changed since bzr 2.2.0. So perhaps this failure was independently present in bzr-search?
