Oh,

one more important thing. soundcard has a button (RECORD). And It has to be
pressed when used for SPDIF/IN. Because if its not on we get output like:
1. ** CRC failed - skipping frame **

andrej@atlantis:~$ arecord -D spdif:2,0 -t raw -f dat | ac3dec
Recording raw data 'stdin' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz, Stereo
** CRC failed - skipping frame **
Using PCM device 'default'

2. Segmentation fault

andrej@atlantis:~$ arecord -D spdif:2,0 -t raw -f dat | ac3dec -D surround51:1,0
Recording raw data 'stdin' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz, Stereo
** CRC failed - skipping frame **
Using PCM device 'surround51:1,0'
argh!
Segmentation fault

I did switch optical cables. Usb ports and cables. Hope this help a
little more also.
