Still not working with kernel 2.6.38-8-generic. The GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="acpi_osi='\"!Windows 2009\"'" workaround does not work anymore. Workaround of the day is GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="acpi_backlight=vendor", and calling update-grub (thanks to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/428910/comments/5).
