Same problem with asrock K7VM3 motherboard with an onboard vga connected to a 
Sunstar monitor (FH 568).
(EE) VESA(0) : No Maching modes
(EE) Screen(s) Found, but none have a usable configuration
Fatal Server error
no Screens found
Press any key to restart your system

You should be able to boot from the live-cd without problems if you just
boot with the monitor disconnected though.. That's not a solution, but I
thought it might help anyway.
