I had the same problem on the same laptop model (HP G62). To bypass this issue, I disabled radeon at system startup by editing /etc/default/grub and setting the variable GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in this way: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash radeon.modeset=0"
