Thanks EffE, assuming both alsa-infos were taken with headphones plugged
in, I do notice a difference in the way the speaker pin is muted - via
Amp-Out mute in the auto model and via Pin-ctl in the toshiba model. Can
you verify that this is what's causing the hiss?

Download snd-hda-tools from ppa:diwic/ppa, then start "sudo
hda_analyzer" and go to node 0x14, could you try checking and unchecking
the boxes "EAPD", "Mute" and "OUT" and see which one(s) that have an
effect on the hiss?
