I cannot set device preferences using Sound Preferences on Ubuntu 10.10. To send Skype to my VOIP phone and to send Totem to my speakers, I have to use pavucontrol. Using Sound Preferences alone sends all sound output to either the phone or my speakers. That is, once I Choose a Device to Configure, I feel like the Input and Output settings should correspond to the device I just chose. But with Sound Preferences, I can choose a profile but can't edit it and can't assign that profile to Skype or Totem.
