ok I removed the "options snd-hda-intel model=auto" line from 
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf. I then added "options snd-hda-intel 
model=ideapad" . That appears to have fixed it.
I'll get back to you if I find it isn't fixed, but so far it seems to work 
great.
