It happens every time I log in. The "Pointing devices" application (gpointing-device-settings 1.5.1-4) is something I installed from the software centre as it enables management of multiple devices - the default 'Mouse' application only manages the default. This happens on every log in, regardless of bluetooth status. When first connected, the magic trackpad is also disabled until I do the same dance. The mouse does work in the gdm log in screen but stops working when my desktop session starts.
