I have had this issue for over 2 years, been plaguing me ever since I bought my packard bell dotma with the RS690M x1200, I thought I was suffering alone ! I got round it with the radeon modeset=0 as a kernel boot param.
However now doing that in 11.4 results in Unity not launching which is a step too far for me now. This bug certainly is NOT resolved in the radeon driver.
