It didn't work with new kernel included in natty '2.6.38-8-generic #40-Ubuntu SMP Thu Mar 31 21:26:31 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux' as well. However after installing 'compat-wireless-2011-03-31' the connection started to work again so maybe the wireless subsystem in natty's kernel is broken for p54usb driver?
