This has a very high chance of DAMAGING HARDWARE and so should be given the highest possible priority.
My Dell Studio 1555 runs about 30 degrees hotter while idle using the opensource radeon driver then when using the FLGRX driver. If I actually use my laptop (playing games etc) the temperature goes straight into very unsafe territory . The default ubuntu configuration for ATI Mobility Radeon cards is most likely permanently damaging peoples computers.
