Bogdan, I'm marking this as rejected (in other words, "not a bug"), primarily because it is more of a feature request than a bug report. Someone might argue that in that case, the report should be marked as confirmed and have its importance set to Wishlist; my reading of [1] is that this would be inappropriate: "If it is non-trivial to implement, it should rather be written as a feature specification".
I invite you to create a specification for this feature; please refer to [2]. Before or as part of writing a specification, though, you may want to review a few related ideas and pages. For example, there may be some related items in the idea pool [3], and there is certainly overlap in [4] and in [5]. Any general approach might also apply to [6]. Finally, an argument could be made that this could be a function of the window manager; perhaps what is desired in this case is a replacement for GDM? If you're unsure about tackling a specification, try raising the issue on Sounder [7]; perhaps you'll strike a chord with others, and get something going that way.
