Can you run sudo dmraid -n /dev/sdc and post the results? As well as run sudo dmraid -rD, tar, and attach the resulting files? My guess is that you have used these disks in an ataraid before and so they already had DDF1 metadata on them, and now you have both sets of metadata, which is an invalid configuration.
