I have the same bug with Ubuntu 10.10 and NVIDIA graphic card GeForce 8400M GS on DEll XPS M1330. My actual kernel is 2.6.35-28-generic and i used old NVIDIA driver 173 and now i use the newest driver downloaded from NVIDIA web site 260.19.144 but i have the same problem. When the bug is manifest the mouse pointer is flashing and the screen, the keyboard and the mouse pointer are out of control. I can only restart the system with an hard reset. This is a very important and serious problem because isn't possible predict when bug appears and when i see the initials symptoms of the bug it's too late for save the documents opened because in a few seconds the system is fully out of control.
