Same behavior in https: firefox is opened properly. Perhaps I had not
rebooted since the time I'd installed and set Firefox to be my main
browser, and the bug report system requires a full-blown restart to
realize this? I'm not keen on restarting my system, and saw no need at
the time since the rest of the system recognized the change immediately.
In any case, it now appears to be working correctly after a restart.

Very interesting. I'm not complaining. :) It looks like fundamentally,
whatever's in place works, but just might do so differently than the
rest of the system seems to do. It'd be nice to inform the user s/he'll
need to reboot before filing bugs or whatnot.
