Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nfs-kernel-server
When using Lucid as the NFS server, changing group ownership of a file/directory fails for the user even if he/she is member of the target group. I have tested this with Lucid and Maverick servers with nfs- kernel-server installed, and it works correctly on Maverick, but not on Lucid. I have tested with clients on RedHat, Ubuntu (Lucid and Maverick) and Solaris 10, and the problem is isolated to Lucid. I have tried to upgrade to 10.04.2, but the problem persists. Please see below for testing output roy # On NFS client (Solaris 10 - same applies to Linux clients) paul@zardoz:~ $ ls -ld /homevip/paul/create_users/oper drwxrwxr-x 9 paul nilu 4096 feb 15 10:16 /homevip/paul/create_users/oper paul@zardoz:~ $ chgrp emep /homevip/paul/create_users/oper chgrp: /homevip/paul/create_users/oper: Not owner # (linux clients say 'operation not permitted' here) # Locally on the NFS server paul@ny-filur:~ $ id uid=1300(paul) gid=100(nilu) groups=100(nilu),1077(emep),3000(satdata),27030(calval),32143(rima),36009(eusaar) paul@ny-filur:~ $ groups nilu emep satdata calval rima eusaar paul@ny-filur:~ $ ls -ld /homevip/paul/create_users/oper drwxrwxr-x 9 paul nilu 4096 2011-02-15 10:16 /homevip/paul/create_users/oper paul@ny-filur:~ $ chgrp emep /homevip/paul/create_users/oper paul@ny-filur:~ $ chgrp nilu /homevip/paul/create_users/oper paul@ny-filur:~ $ ** Affects: nfs-utils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: chgrp chown nfs nis -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/734969 Title: chgrp fails on NFS -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
