Under the Network Connections GUI, no other interface existed (this device connects via usb to ethernet). I tried creating a new connection using the MAC address of the usb device and setting the routes to only use that connection for resources in its network, but the issue remains. The issue is resolved as soon as the usb is disconnected, but this obviously is problematic.
