There shouldn't be a version that stops playing when shell is used. The version 1.49 does have a bug that crashes the cplay when !shell is used, but this is fixed now. Note that if you have a long running external command, then cplay won't progress to the next track if it's still waiting for the shell to finish.
Assuming this report is about the crash using shell. If the long running command is the problem for you, please reopen.
