I have similar issue - when I try and read anything of my NAS (an iomega home-NAS) which is mounted as cifs, Thunar hangs. The directory tree has in excess of 50000 files. If I close thunar and reopen, if fails to even read my home directory. I can see the directory fine from a command line and from various apps. I've always had this issue with Thunar, even then I used to mount the NAS as smbfs. I've migrated, over that time, from xubuntu 8.04 to 10.04
