I can't see any evidence of the kernel attempting to log at all. I just did a test where I rebooted into the 20-12 kernel waited a bit after the hang, and then rebooted back into 20-11, noted the time, and in dmesg, kern.log, messages, debug, etc. All show the original shutdown and they show the boot into 20-11. There isn't a line in any of the logs for the attempt to boot into 20-12.
