I manage to fix mine by connecting a wire from the motherboard to the Radeon card.

This is a fresh install of 9.10 on an HP Slimline s3100e PC with a HD Radeon 4650 card. Some other posting I have seen is creating a file called /etc/asound.conf and added the following lines: pcm.!default hdmi:HDMI pcm.iec958 hdmi:HDMI Tried it (even rebooted) and it didn't work. And yet another solution was to created a file called /etc/modprobe.d/hda_intel.conf and add the following line: options snd-hda-intel model=auto probe_mask=1 This also did not work (even after reboot). I'm seriously at a loss here and do not know what else to do. I'm fairly new to linux (disclaimer). I have not downloaded any of the proprietary drivers for this card. I would prefer to stay away from that but if it's the only option then I would give it a go.
