Thanks for the help, but so far no change. I ran the three lines of code: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r)
Alsamixer remains the same (Item: Headphone [db gain 0.00 0.00], and the graphical representation is permanently greyed out, and cannot be modified) The headphone socket (which works in Windows) does not give any sound, and does not stop the line out socket from working.
