Looking at Christians write up in comment #58, it seems very much that
the device is behaving correctly at the kernel level (lucid and up at
least). The device has two modes after conversion from hci mode
usability compromised due to the need to pair the device. In both modes
however it appears to be working as expected at the kernel level. I am
therefore closing out the development kernel task. As it may be
appropriate to suppress this mode conversion for this specific device I
am opening a udev task to investigate how that might be done.

** Also affects: udev (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
       Status: New
