  Binary package hint: network-manager

I have an old Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 laptop which previously ran
intrepid out of the box. In attempting to upgrade to a supported
version of ubuntu, I have installed maverick.

The wireless card no longer works under Network Manager.

I have detailed my attempts to get this functioning on askubuntu.com

  http://askubuntu.com/questions/25133/how-can-i-configure-the-embedded-
  wireless-card-in-a-toshiba-satellite-pro-4600-to

I have filed this bug under network-manager as according to the orinoco
page on linuxwireless.org, a known issue of the driver is the necessity
of using the ap_scan=2 mode when the driver is controlled via
  wpa_supplicant.

The card can be made to work by manually configuring wpa_supplicant
config files in this way, however NM does not use these traditional
config files, and so the parameter must be passed to wpa_supplicant by
NM, which appears to be impossible.

Why this has evolved as a regression is not clear to me, however I'm
sure someone with a better understanding of the wireless network stack
  could explain it.
