@aus: At first that appeared to work for me, but after a period of time it went back to the previous slow speeds (<1 Mbps).
I'm using the 2.6.32-21 Lucid kernel in the way described here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=10268752&postcount=5 to get solid speeds (~7-10 Mbps).
