Right. I've observed this behaviour as well using my x200s with 64-bit lucid. Fan speed goes to around 3700 rpm and doesn't come back down when the CPU goes back to idling.
Then I read the above post and updated to 10.10 - but no change whatsoever. Got frustrated and reinstalled 10.04, and experimented with everything I could think to experiment with... not much luck though. Since it was mentioned above, I decided to check my embedded controller firmware, but yeah, 1.06. Then I got patient and installed the gnome sensor applet... and watched and watched. My fan speed does actually go down, but it takes quite awhile of idling. I assume we have been assuming that the fan would basically follow the CPU temps, yeah? I'm thinking the problem rather follows the Mini-PCI temps. The wifi card seems to like to settle somewhere over 50 with traffic, and it takes a bloody LONG time to cool. But once it does, the fan seems to settle back down.
