Judging from all the squashfs errors in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eglibc/+bug/712245/+attachment/1826441/+files/Dmesg.txt, it looks like you're trying to run update-manager on a live CD or live USB stick, but the hardware is failing in some way such that it can't read from it any more and thus can't construct a consistent idea of what it needs to write. If it's a CD, then cleaning the disc and/or the drive may help. If it's a USB stick, it may be failing for some other reason. In any case, the errors from the package manager are just a knock-on effect of this.
