Thanks for reporting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The /var/log/daemon.log from your system suggests that mysql is insisting that you set initial passwords before proceeding. It would like you to do:
/usr/bin/mysqladmin -u root password 'new-password' /usr/bin/mysqladmin -u root -h lturnbow-laptop password 'new-password' Hopefully these steps will be sufficient to allow updates to proceed again. Please let us know how it goes. ** Changed in: mysql-dfsg-5.1 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/710038 Title: package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.8 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 20 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
